ARTIST STATEMENT
Primer is a preparatory coat of an unpainted substance to prevent wear. I found this material that I kept on my desk for many days and I really loved how it looked after it was accidentally scratched - so I scratched it some more and layered it. I have flat files full of strange experiments like this. Oddly enough, this piece originally done for Ghostly International's expansive 11-year survey, We'll Never Stop Living This Way was done right before I got hired to work on a project called Primer. Perfect fit.

Michael Cina is a world-renowned, award-winning art director, typographer and visual artist based in Minneapolis, MN. A true polymath, Michael is an accomplished abstract painter whose work has been exhibited all over the world and can be seen on numerous album covers for various labels, most notably, Ghostly International, where he's defined the overall art direction of the label since 2008.
